Has anyone ever experienced GI issues from gut punching?

About 40 years ago I had a buddy who was 40 lbs smaller than me. I was 220 and he was 180. We met up periodically for wrasslin sessions with striking allowed. I usually started down to make up for the size difference and matches were to submission. Usually sessions were pretty even for wins and losses. One afternoon he caught me at the start of the first match with a huge right hand to my solar plexus. My abs were pretty tough but that was too much and I curled up winded. he then worked me over until he got me in a submission hold and I tapped. Next match I still wasn't recovered and he beat me up again. I think I lost 12 matches in a row and he worked over my gut when ever he got the chance. After the session was over and the adrenalin wore off I had a lot of pain in the area of my solar plexus. For years after I had trouble with acid reflux if I ate before bed. Eventually it went away and I don't have trouble anymore but damn that was a great afternoon of getting beat up.

Ouch. Yeah. I'm glad you had fun, though.

All sports entail some risk of injury. Studies have shown that 80% of professional football players sustain some amount of brain damage. Cauliflower ears are frequent among martial artists. Even tennis players (tennis not being typically considered a brutal combat sport) have a high rate of elbow injuries. A good friend of mine really enjoyed riding his bike for fitness, until the day a car hit him and turned him into a paraplegic. Be sensible, encourage safety, but don't live in a bubble. Ever since the day each of us crawled out of the womb, we have been at risk, but that's life. And none of us can crawl back in.

I appreciate the sentiment. Yeah, 'safe, sane and consensual' is the best way to go.

I agree with this! It's just like any other extreme sport lol! Nobody hates on an MMA boxer because they understand that injury is part of the process. No reason to be hating on ourselves or other guys into gut punching who go into it understanding the risks.

I've always been iffy about this, actually. MMA fighters don't often get paid enough for the amount of damage they sustain, especially when a lot of them live in the US, where healthcare is abysmal. I know and respect that if a grown adult consents to it, it's okay to let them do as they wish, but I also know and respect that we as human beings can do some pretty dumb stuff for our fifteen minutes of fame. I dunno. There's only so much you can do to limit a combat sport before it becomes the next taekwondo, but I just feel like the most extreme 'snap a bone, mess you up for life' kinds of thing should be made illegal at the very least, and that limitations should be put on severe head and body punishment. Other than that, I agree with you.

Apples and oranges sir. A cauliflower ear is purely cosmetic. And getting hit by a car while riding your bike isn't a direct cause and effect.

Neither of those directly effect the major functions in your body or change the way you live your life the way intentionally damaged internal organs would.

For example, most of us would agree that smoking is bad and damages the lung. Yet some heavy smokers still manage to live long and functional lives without ever developing lung cancer.

Nevertheless, those handful of anomalies doesn't mean that smoking isn't still dangerous. Especially since that person only represents one out of hundreds of thousands that do develop lung cancer from smoking and die from it each year.

Its similar with sports such as boxing: That sport intentionally causes direct intentional injury to the most vital part of the human body – the head. But there is a monetary incentive for boxing, and it comes with a very limited shelf life.

Guys get into it for a time, accumulate their wealth, and hopefully, get out before too much irreparable damage has been done. One reason we don't see any octogenarian pro boxers.

That said, its your body, and I'll be the first in line to defend your right to do with as you please – even when that activity causes serious permanent damage. And no one should ever try to force you to do otherwise. It should always be your choice.

GI as in gastrointestinal. I once heard that in certain cases, symptoms won't present themselves until years down the road from whatever activity had caused the issues to begin with; they just get worse and worse until you do notice them. Frankly, I don't know if this is true or not, but what I do know from a good friend of mine who works in a hospital is that even with a fully engaged ab wall, your internal organs will still absorb some amount of force from a blow. This is true even if it's just stinging pain, which comes not only from a sensation in the muscle but in the organs behind it, such as the intestines. So I suppose no matter how safe you're being, no one here is truly invulnerable to getting GI issues.

So I guess for anyone here who's done gut punching for a really long while, you still feeling okay?

Been a receiver for over 15 years, and zero consequences. And at the highest level, I bring 4 lb lead balls to my sessions that my punchers use on me, and they hit me as hard as they can. Complemented by poppers, so my stomach is completely relaxed.

Zero consequences. Mostly just flexible bags in the belly. So keep on receiving and keep on punching! Hottest BDSM fetish ever!

Sorry, I'm a bit slow. Could you elaborate on what you mean by flexible bags in the belly, please?

Agree! Keep up your good work. The fun and all the exitement. Gutpunching is hot, arousing and get us exited. For a lot of us, it's better than sex. Or at least as good as....

Yes, it might have consequences. Some might get minor injuries, some more serious.

To live will also have consequences. Nobody survives.

At least I will leave this planet knowing there was a lot of fun!
Hopefully there will be a lot of good, hot gutpunching before I leave 😉👍

Completely agree! Nobody lives forever, so why not enjoy it while you can?

But again, I've been doing this for a long time, receiving harder punches than likely most here would imagine, weighted fists, sap gloves, sledgehammers etc. Relaxed stomach, for hours, with the benefit of poppers that completely relax the stomach. Yeah, I might be sore for a day or two.

Once I was doing a 3 on 1 blindfolded, this guy came out with a sledgehammer. He accidentally hit me in the ribs and cracked them! My stomach was fine, but my ribs hurt for months!

So, the moral is, tell your puncher to just target the stomach! It's safe!

Agree!

As you wrote:

Yes. Even if you think you can handle "anything" - I think a good communication is essential. Ask him to concentrate on your stomach. Everything that happend is based on trust.

You need to trust your puncher, and the puncher need to trust your recilience. That your stomach actually can handle this.

What were you expecting? Did you think there wouldn't be consequences to some of the bizarre fetishes people do here?

Think good and hard about some of the stuff you do because once the symptoms present themselves, the damage is likely already done.

After getting the bad news, I suspect those guys will look back and say to themselves: "what was I thinking?"
