Guysmiley is correct. We got three different things going. Well, there are three ways to get knocked out. 1. An air choke using suffocation or strngualation; 2. A "blood choke" slow blood to head by pressure on carotoid arteries. 3. Physical knockout by striking the head Brain conks out when rattled enough and hitting certain nerves. 1. The blood choke is easiest to do and the least dangerous. Requires direct pressure on BOTH corotiod arteries at the same time. The arteries run along the side of the head just in front of the midline of the neck. Whether you use arms, legs, or whatever you only need enough pressure to cut the blood supply down by 30 -50% and your guy is out cold; 30%-five seconds 50%-two seconds. It's only dangerous if you hold it longer than 30 seconds. Safter for 10 seconds and guy will be out cold for a minute or so. You have to be careful that in putting pressure on the neck, that you don't put pressure on the front where the delecate hyoid bone is located.
The last is the air choke. Basically you stop someone from breathing and they will pass out in a minute or so as the oxygen in the blood gradually drops. So it's a matter of mechanics. Skilled guys can conpress the windpipe expertly to cut down air flow without injury. But it is high risk without training. The other way is by bear hug or body scissors held so strongly that the person cannot get enough air and then the oxygen drop and out he goes. Having your chest compressed at that level and you will pass out just like you would if drowning or being suffocated. Hold a guys nose and keepping his mouth clamped stops the air. The scissor or bearhug is just like people who get executed by stoning (they don't throw stones, they pile them on top until the person is not strong enough to push the rocks and keep breathing). A lot of people will use all their strength to keep this from happening so there needs to be a large imballance of strength. More of an imbalance in needed in a bearhug because arms will tire before the person passes out, so you have to keep doing it. Legs are very powerful and a guy with moderately strong legs can stop you from breathing and hold it for long enough for lyou to pass out. (you usually need to control the arms, because they can cause unacceptable pain to your legs unless you do. If you play with this kind of stuff, you should be familar with the science and make sure that you completely educate your oponent. Deaths are rare but are the result of accident and stupidity, because you get a dumb heel and they think you are selling it when you stay "asleep". You can sell a long sleep if you don't actually pass out. When you pass out you will jerk awake before you realize that you wanted to keep selling it.
This is off the top of my head so is probably only about 80% accurate. I would like to hear this in greater detail from someone much better informed than I am.
I'd like to be sleepered out with a figure 4 head scissors. Ideally I'm in the hold when the guy has me helpless in the figure 4 and then he plays with it, keeping me on the edge, I'm not out, but I don't know where I am, he may release it slighly and I start to come to and figure out where I am just lone enough to understand that the tightening leg means I'm going out again.
Finally he says "nighty night, clamps it on hard and I go out like a ton of bricks.
Hi,
I have been taken out cold by a body scissors with a choke hold applied and by a head scissors with a no tapout allowed. I am looking forward to being KO's by a boxer in the future.
Aye, there's the rub. I want only carotid "chokes" because they are pretty safe. Air chokes, for me are unpleasant and can be dangerous. And I'n not a boxer. Cannot imagine wanting to be knocked out by a punch to the head not matter how padded.
Basically first we need your version of a knock out….is it a ten count…a thirty count…because if it is that is ok and is technically a knock out…but if you want to talk about knocking someone out cold or unconscious, that takes a special set of circumstances…one it can just be a luck punch that lands just right and the receiver was just not expecting it or was caught off guard…but that rarely happens…but I like to box to a knock out as in out cold, and the only way I could ever find to it was for the fighters to agree to no count out at all…if the downed fighter is not out then he can get back up and keep fighting if he wants to…I am like that and will get back up and up even after I know I have lost the fight to get to that point where I can be knocked out cold…so it is a combination of exhaustion and taking enough hits to the head by a decent opponent who is willing to keep going…it can help if you have a third person there to pull a downed fighter to his feet and push him back into the action after say thirty seconds…but it is going to take something like that…or to do choke outs in wrestling…other than that in normal fighting it is all but impossible to get another man knocked totally unconscious…it can be the reserve of course so it just does not have to be me…but both fighters have to agree this is what they are willing to do…

Hot! I love when heels keep me on the edge in a sleeper hold, taunt me - and then say "NAP TIME JOBBER BOY" and send me to dreamland...zzzzzzzzzzz
Out cold. Humiliated.

Maybe a little clarification. Are we talking about boxing, grappling or both? It is really two different things depending on activity.
